A disagreement over a job: the steps to settle it

Batizzy connects homeowners and professionals but is not a party to the contract they sign. If you disagree, we offer free mediation and point you to the competent Belgian bodies. None of these steps takes away your right to other remedies.

01Steps

From talking it over to court, in order

  1. Put it in writing to the other party

Get back in touch through the project's messaging and say exactly what is wrong, what you expect and by when. Messages sent on Batizzy cannot be edited or deleted by participants: together with the project's quote and invoices, they keep a dated record of your exchanges.

  2. Open a dispute on Batizzy

On the page of a project in progress or completed, the client can open a dispute against the pro whose quote they accepted, and the pro against their client. Describe the disagreement and add a link to your documents if needed. Each party can reply in writing in the case file. A member of the Batizzy team reviews it along with the project's messages, then gives a written decision; both parties receive it in their notifications. This mediation is free and optional.

No project on Batizzy, or no link on the page? Write to litiges@batizzy.be with the project or quote reference, a summary of the facts and your documents (photos, invoices, messages).

  3. Turn to a recognised mediator

If you are a consumer and mediation fails, you can refer the matter free of charge to the Consumer Mediation Service, a Belgian federal body: mediationconsommateur.be. For construction or renovation works, the Construction Conciliation Commission (Commission de Conciliation Construction) can step in if both parties agree or if the contract provides for it.

The European online dispute resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025: it is no longer a remedy.

  4. As a last resort, the courts

Belgian law applies. For a dispute with a consumer, the court of the consumer's home is competent (article 624 of the Judicial Code), without prejudice to their right to bring the case before another competent court. For a dispute between a professional and Batizzy, the courts of the judicial district of Liège are competent, where the publisher, OGMIOS Atelier SRL, has its registered office.

02Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can Batizzy force a contractor to finish the works?

No. Batizzy is not a party to the contract between you and the professional and cannot impose anything. Mediation helps you reach an agreement; if it fails, Belgian ombudsman services and the courts remain open.

Does Batizzy's mediation cost anything?

No. It is free for both parties and optional: you can also go straight to a mediator or to court.

Can Batizzy refund my deposit?

No. No payment goes through Batizzy: there is no escrow and the platform refunds nothing. A deposit is recovered from the professional, amicably, through mediation or in court.

What evidence should I keep?

The accepted quote, the invoices, dated photos and written messages. On Batizzy, they stay attached to the project, and messages can no longer be edited once sent.

Can I leave a review after a disagreement?

Yes, if you worked with this professional on a project closed on Batizzy: a review is only possible between the client and a pro of the project, once it is finished. The person reviewed can reply once. A review must reflect a real experience.

03Moderation

A moderation decision about you

Batizzy may remove content, such as a review, or block an account that breaches the terms of use. Blocking an account and removing a review are notified by email to the person concerned, with the reasons and the available remedies.

You can challenge a decision free of charge for six months by writing to contact@batizzy.be. Someone other than the person who decided reviews your complaint, and that review is never left to automated processing alone. You can also turn to an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified under article 21 of the Digital Services Act (DSA), or to the courts.
